    English Language Development Program

More than 40% of Wing Luke students are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) who need additional support in developing English language skills. There are many more students who speak a language other than English at home. To support our language rich population, we have three full-time English Language Development (ELD) teachers and five Bilingual Instructional Assistants who speak Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese and Spanish. Our ELD teachers serve the ELL students in a variety of ways. Kindergarten and 1st grade students are in collaborative classrooms where the classroom teacher and the ELD teacher co-teach for part of the day. Other grade levels are taught in small groups during reading and math blocks. Bilingual IA's tutor students and provide both academic and language support. For more information regarding our ELL program or translation/interpretation support, please contact the school office at (206) 252-7630.
