Wing Luke Elementary

School Leader Update: JaLynn Montes

Dear Wing Luke families and staff,

I am pleased to announce that Principal JaLynn Montes has been selected as the interim principal of Wing Luke Elementary for the 2023-24 school year.

Principal Montes will replace Principal Carol Mendoza who is leaving Seattle Public Schools to pursue another professional opportunity.

Principal Montes most recently has served as an assistant principal at Ballard High School and also Redmond Middle School in the Lake Washington School District.

In addition to school leadership roles, she has served as an English language arts and social studies teacher in Seattle Public Schools, Portland Public Schools, and Edmonds School District. She has taught English as a second language (ESL) at several local community colleges including Everett, Edmonds, and Shoreline.

She is also a proud SPS parent – her three children have attended elementary, middle, and high school in our district.

Principal Montes earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and English from Pacific Lutheran University. She earned her master’s in adult and higher education and residency administrator certificate (principal certificate) from Western Washington University.

Principal Montes is guided by the belief that every student’s education should provide them with the academic and social-emotional skills to achieve their dreams. She is excited to serve as interim principal at Wing Luke.

SPS will begin the search for a permanent principal for Wing Luke in spring 2024. At that time, SPS will share next steps with the community.

I want to thank Principal Mendoza for her leadership and service to Wing Luke Elementary. Principal Montes began serving as interim principal on Aug. 7.

Please join me in welcoming Principal Montes to Wing Luke!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Jones
Superintendent
